Working with lead artist Anna Francis at The New Art Gallery Walsall, myself and the artist Rachel Marsden were selected to participate in INTERROGATION:COLLABORATION. The one-day residency as part of INTERROGATION:WALSALL consisted of four residencies asking artists to become a secret agent for a day to create a series of short, sharp interventions within the public realm exploring the impact that one artist can make in one place, in one day:
INTERROGATION: ACTION RESEARCH (09/09/09)
INTERROGATION: CONSULTATION (16/09/09)
INTERROGATION: COLLABORATION (23/09/09)
INTERROGATION: INTERVENTION (30/09/09)
We undertook our collaborative mission as Agent Taylor and Agent Marsden; creating an (inteR)textual dialogue with the public of Walsall, in order to interrogate the identity of Walsall as a post-industrial town. Using an INTERROGATION STATION in Gallery Square as a base for our intervention, we encouraged the public to collaborate with us by constructing words made out of the prefix (inteR) to represent what Walsall meant to them.
Our findings were installed in the gallery and interlinked with the two other 'pairs' of collaborators that took part in the INTERROGATION:COLLABORATION day and later exhibited and disseminated in the INTERROGATION:WALSALL seminar.
